For low-altitude electric aviation, thermal management is a flight-critical system, not an afterthought. When ARIDGE — the world’s leading creator of low-altitude mobility solutions and the largest flying-car company in Asia — finalized the architecture of its A868 eVTOL, cooling the power electronics and battery systems had to meet an especially demanding bar: high-voltage DC power, strict galvanic isolation, and deterministic high-speed communication.
Why a Flying Car Needs More Than a Standard Fan
Unlike ground-based equipment, an eVTOL operates across wide altitude, temperature and vibration ranges, and its electrical architecture runs on an 800 VDC high-voltage bus. A conventional cooling fan cannot simply be dropped in:
- High-voltage compatibility — the fan must interface directly with the 800 VDC supply.
- Isolation for safety — redundant, galvanically isolated inputs prevent a single fault from cascading.
- Deterministic control — speed setpoints and status are exchanged over CAN FD, the high-speed, error-tolerant CAN variant adopted across modern vehicle networks.
SUNXFAN’s Newly Designed 800 VDC EC Axial Fan
To satisfy these requirements, SUNXFAN delivered a purpose-built EC axial fan:
- Dual 800 VDC isolated inputs — two independent, galvanically isolated 800 VDC feeds provide built-in redundancy and fault tolerance.
- CAN FD high-speed communication — real-time speed setpoint, monitoring and diagnostics over CAN FD, without compromising latency.
- EC external-rotor axial design — an electronically commutated permanent-magnet drive delivers high airflow efficiency with precise, software-defined speed control.
Stable Operation on the ARIDGE-A868
The 800 VDC EC axial fan is now running stably aboard the ARIDGE-A868 flying car, validating the design under real low-altitude flight duty. Field-proven operation confirms:
- Reliable start-up and continuous duty on the 800 VDC bus.
- Consistent cooling performance across the flight envelope.
- Seamless integration with the vehicle’s CAN FD control network.
